Esports has once again proven its growing prominence in the sports community by securing its spot as an official medal sport in the upcoming 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026. The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee (AINAGOC) recently announced the addition of nine new sports, with esports standing out as one of the highlights.


This exciting development was shared during the 42nd Olympic Council of Asia General Assembly held in Bangkok, Thailand. It signifies the increasing recognition and acceptance of esports within the Asian Olympic communities. The decision was warmly received by the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF), which expressed its full support for the inclusion of esports as a medal event in the 20th Asian Games.


Kenneth Fok, the President of AESF, welcomed the decision and announcement from both the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and AINAGOC. He emphasized AESF's commitment to working closely with AINAGOC to ensure the seamless integration of esports into the 20th Asian Games following its introduction in the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games.


Building upon their successful collaboration with the Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) for the upcoming 19th Asian Games, AESF, as the governing body of esports in Asia, will continue its cooperative approach with AINAGOC and local counterparts. This collaboration aims to create a well-organized and engaging esports program for the 20th Asian Games, offering an exciting platform for talented esports athletes to showcase their skills and compete for medals.
