Since its launch in 2018, Dead Cells has become a beloved title among roguelike enthusiasts. Developed by Motion Twin and Evil Empire, the game has captivated players with its fast-paced combat and challenging gameplay. Now, after six years of continuous updates and expansions, Dead Cells is set to receive its final batch of content with Update 35, slated for release on August 19.

Fans of the game were not entirely surprised by the news, as Motion Twin announced earlier this year that no further updates would be provided beyond this final patch. Update 35, aptly titled "The End is Near," will be the last update for the popular indie title and will include several new features and additions. This final update will also bring mobile device support, extending the game's reach to more platforms.

Update 35 will introduce three new Curse additions, along with a powerful new weapon named Anathema, which allows players to deal heavy area-of-effect damage at the risk of becoming cursed. The update also adds three new enemy types, fresh weapons, and balance changes for The Bank, as well as options to customize a new head. Despite the end of major updates, Motion Twin has promised to address any remaining bugs and quality-of-life issues across all platforms.

The announcement marks the conclusion of a significant era for Dead Cells, which initially gained attention during its Steam Early Access phase before launching on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PS4. The game’s continuous updates and expansions, both free and paid, have kept the content fresh and engaging for its dedicated player base.

In a recent statement, Motion Twin expressed gratitude to its loyal fans and reassured them that while Dead Cells' updates are ending, the game will continue to live on through other projects. Notably, there are plans for a Dead Cells board game adaptation and a currently in-development animated series.

Despite the excitement around the final update, there has been some criticism from within the community. The former lead designer of Dead Cells voiced concerns about the decision to end updates, suggesting that the wishes of devoted players and employees were being overlooked.

As the final update approaches, the Dead Cells community remains active and vibrant. An enthusiastic fan recently showcased their dedication with a stunning colored pencil drawing of the game's main protagonist, The Beheaded.

With Update 35 set to launch on August 19, players can look forward to one last adventure in the world of Dead Cells before the game’s update cycle concludes.
