Discord is set to enhance the gaming experience on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles with a significant upgrade. This new functionality is currently available to Xbox Insiders and will be rolled out to all Xbox gamers in the near future.
Since its launch, Discord has grown to become a leading platform for gaming communication, expanding its features across various devices. In 2021, Discord partnered with PlayStation to bring its features to their consoles, and this year, it’s Xbox’s turn to benefit from new Discord capabilities.
As of July 31, Discord announced two major updates for Xbox users. The first feature integrates Discord friends into the Xbox friends list under a new “Happening now” section. This allows Xbox players to see which of their Discord friends are currently gaming or in voice calls. From this list, users can join a Discord voice channel, watch a friend's game stream, or start a call directly from their Xbox console, streamlining the Discord experience.
The second feature allows Xbox gamers to view Discord streams directly on their consoles. By accessing the Xbox guide, players can select a friend's profile and choose the "Watch Stream" option to view the Discord stream in full-screen mode. The feature includes options for muting and adjusting volume, making it easier for gamers to engage with streams without needing a separate device.
These updates aim to make the Discord experience more seamless on Xbox consoles by reducing the reliance on smartphones or other secondary devices. Players will be able to interact with Discord friends and content directly from their Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S, enhancing their gaming sessions.
Xbox Insiders have the first opportunity to test these new features. To join the program and experience upcoming updates, users can download the Xbox Insider Hub app on their consoles or Windows devices. The Xbox Insider Twitter account regularly posts about new alpha updates, and Xbox encourages feedback to continue improving features like these.
With these upgrades, Discord continues to solidify its role as a key communication tool for gamers across all major platforms.
