Esports World Cup launches mobile app

The Esports World Cup, a major multi-title esports event organized by the Esports World Cup Foundation, has introduced a new mobile app to enhance the fan experience. The app, designed to complement the ongoing tournament in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, provides fans with up-to-date scores, live streaming of current events, and a detailed schedule of the competitions.

Launched in July and spanning eight weeks, the inaugural Esports World Cup features 21 tournaments, including popular titles such as Apex Legends, Fortnite, Street Fighter 6, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, with a total prize pool of $60 million (~£46.9 million). Fans can use the app to watch live streams, check tournament scores, and purchase tickets for upcoming matches.

The app aims to offer the best possible experience for both attendees and viewers at home, providing a central hub for all tournament-related information.

The Esports World Cup Foundation, which organizes the event, is supported by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund. This backing has sparked some criticism from teams and industry stakeholders due to concerns over Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.

The event has already achieved significant viewership milestones, with the League of Legends tournament reaching a peak of one million viewers and the Overwatch 2 event attracting 100,000 peak viewers.

Thamer Alshuaibi, Chief Admin Officer of the Esports World Cup Foundation, commented on the app's launch: “The Esports World Cup has been an unparalleled success, with the best clubs featuring the best players producing matches in elite, must-watch tournaments that have captivated gamers across the globe. The app has instantly become everyone on the ground’s go-to for every little bit of EWC news, and I know that will be the same for so many other like-minded gamers everywhere in the world.”
