After being initially announced back in 2017, the action game Lost Soul Aside has made a long-awaited return with a new gameplay clip that highlights its fast-paced action combat and unique enemy designs. Although the game is still early in development and lacks an official release date, fans can take comfort in knowing that Lost Soul Aside is still progressing.

Revealed as a PlayStation exclusive during PSX 2017, Lost Soul Aside is being developed by UltiZeroGames, a China-based studio that will mark its debut with this title. While details about the game’s plot and specific mechanics remain scarce, early gameplay has drawn comparisons to other action games, particularly resembling the combat and aesthetics of the Devil May Cry series.

The game has been relatively quiet since its last gameplay reveal in 2021, but it made a comeback during a recent showcase event by Gematsu. This event featured what appeared to be a tech demo or in-game training arena, demonstrating the game’s fast-paced and complex combat. Players can utilize various abilities, including summoning floating claws and teleporting, with some mechanics reminiscent of Final Fantasy 16.

It’s uncertain how much Lost Soul Aside has evolved since its development began in 2014, but UltiZeroGames seems to have shifted focus away from a last-generation version, concentrating instead on delivering a game optimized for the PS5 and potentially a PC release. The character action game genre has seen a resurgence in popularity, with recent hits like Devil May Cry 5 and the PS5 exclusive Stellar Blade providing competition in the space.

In addition to Lost Soul Aside, the showcase also highlighted other projects from PlayStation's China Hero Project, an initiative aimed at supporting Chinese developers in reaching a global audience. Games such as the online third-person shooter Convallaria and the Soulslike adventure Daba: Land of Water Scar were featured.

Previous titles that have emerged from the China Hero Project include the cyberpunk sidescroller Anno: Mutationem and the VR-exclusive Immortal Legacy: The Jade Cipher, among others available on both PC and PlayStation platforms.

While fans of Lost Soul Aside will need to wait a bit longer for more concrete information regarding its release date, the character action genre continues to thrive, offering plenty of exciting titles to enjoy in the meantime.
