Recent comments from a high-ranking official at Bandai Namco have sparked excitement among fans, suggesting that Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero will include characters from the original Dragon Ball anime series. This upcoming game promises to deliver the largest roster in the franchise's history, with a total of 164 playable fighters.

So far, the announced roster features 100 characters, primarily drawn from Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super. However, not all characters have been revealed, leaving fans eager to find out who will fill the remaining slots. During an interview with IGN at San Diego Comic Con, David Edmundson, the marketing director at Bandai Namco, hinted at the exciting possibilities for match-ups within the game. He mentioned players could create fantasy battles, such as pitting Goku against his son Gohan.

Edmundson also emphasized the cross-series battles that Sparking! Zero could feature, stating, “You can have people from Dragon Ball fight people from Dragon Ball Super.” He specifically mentioned characters from the original Dragon Ball series, including Tao Pai Pai, also known as Mercenary Tao, who had significant encounters with Goku during his early adventures. Although Tao Pai Pai made a brief return in Dragon Ball Z as a cyborg, his role was much more prominent in the original series.

Moreover, Edmundson referenced the Red Ribbon Army, an organization that played a major antagonistic role in Dragon Ball. He mentioned that players could potentially choose “anyone from the Red Ribbon Army,” opening the door for many classic villains to make an appearance.

If characters from the original series are included, it would mean that Dragon Ball GT is the only main series not yet represented in Sparking! Zero. However, comments from a voice actor have hinted at the possibility of Dragon Ball GT content, including the much-loved Super Saiyan 4 transformations.

As anticipation builds for Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, fans are left wondering which beloved characters will join the fray. With a promise of a vast roster and cross-series battles, the game is shaping up to be a must-play for Dragon Ball enthusiasts.
