The creator of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 H2M mod has shed light on why Activision decided to shut down their ambitious project. The H2M Mod, which aimed to revive Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer experience with enhanced features, was set for release on August 16. However, just hours before the launch, Activision issued a cease-and-desist order, forcing the developers to shut down the project permanently.

According to Watchful Wolf, the founder of the H2M mod, Activision's decision was driven by concerns that the mod could negatively impact the sales of their upcoming title, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Activision reportedly feared that the popularity of the H2M mod, combined with its timing, might interfere with the marketing and potential sales of Black Ops 6.

The H2M mod had generated significant excitement among players, who were disappointed by Activision's decision not to include a multiplayer remaster in Modern Warfare 2. The sudden cancellation led to backlash from the community, including a petition, review bombing of Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam, and public disappointment from eSports organization FaZe Clan.

In his video explanation, Watchful Wolf revealed that the mod was almost ready for launch when the cease-and-desist letter arrived. The developers were forced to immediately halt all activities, shut down servers, and take their website offline. He also mentioned that even if the mod had been developed on another platform, such as Black Ops 3, it might have faced similar issues due to its growing popularity and timing.

Looking ahead, Watchful Wolf plans to step away from modding Call of Duty games but intends to explore other mods and games on his channel. He hinted at the possibility of developing a new game, though this is still in the early stages with no concrete plans.

As for the future, the release of Black Ops 6 is scheduled for October 25. With anticipation building for the new title, it remains to be seen if Activision will reconsider its stance on the MW2 multiplayer remaster. The Call of Duty franchise continues to generate significant buzz as more information about Black Ops 6 is revealed.
