Pokémon GO Confirms Compensation Plans for GO Fest 2024 Issues

Niantic has unveiled its compensation plans for the technical issues experienced during Pokémon GO Fest 2024. The developer will be addressing the problems by offering affected players additional Timed Research, with rewards tailored to individual circumstances.

Pokémon GO Fest 2024 ran from late May to early July across three cities, culminating in a global event on July 13th and 14th. While the series of events provided players with opportunities to catch Pokémon with unique backgrounds, the global fest encountered problems that prevented some participants from obtaining these special Pokémon.

In response to fan complaints, Niantic launched an investigation in late July, which concluded by early August. The company announced that it would provide compensation in the form of Timed Research, which will include the special-background Pokémon that players missed out on during the global event. This bonus research will feature rewards such as Necrozma and Ultra Beasts.

The compensation will be personalized based on each player’s experience. Niantic’s investigation revealed that special-background Pokémon were inaccessible to players using Remote Raid Passes on the first day of GO Fest 2024: Global. Although the company did not specify the exact cause of the issue, it acknowledged that the problem was confined to July 13. Consequently, the number of Timed Research tasks players will receive will be linked to their remote raid activity on that day.

Niantic has not yet provided a specific timeline for when the compensation will be distributed, but it is expected to be rolled out in stages rather than all at once. Players will have until December 31, 2025, to complete the bonus Timed Research.

Reactions on social media to Niantic's compensation plan have been generally positive. Some players have expressed a preference for having their existing Ultra Beasts and Necrozma updated with special backgrounds instead of catching new ones. Others have welcomed the chance to enhance their GO Fest 2024 collection. However, there are also concerns from players who chose not to participate in remote raids due to known issues, and they feel the compensation does not address their specific situation.

Overall, Niantic’s effort to make amends aims to ensure that players who were affected by the event’s technical difficulties still have a chance to enjoy the exclusive Pokémon they missed.
