Riot Games has revealed several significant updates and additions for the VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) in 2025, promising a dynamic and engaging season for fans and players alike. Key changes include a shortened off-season, new format adjustments, and a fresh lineup of event locations.

The updates were shared in a YouTube video featuring Leo Faria, Global Head of VALORANT Esports, and Anna Donlon, VALORANT Studio Lead at Riot Games. The new season will kick off in October 2024, with several notable changes to the VCT structure and event calendar.

Notable Changes and Announcements:

Shortened Off-Season: The off-season will be shorter, allowing for a more continuous competitive calendar. Champions will now be held in October, giving teams more time to rest and prepare for the new season.

Format Adjustments: The VCT format has been revised. Every competition throughout the season will award Championship Points, with Riot Games working to enhance the rewards system for teams. The Kickoff tournaments in January will feature a new double-elimination bracket format, with the top two teams from each region advancing to the Masters events.

New Event Locations: The 2025 VCT Masters tournaments will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, and Toronto, Canada. The VALORANT Champions will conclude the season in Paris, France. Additionally, Riot Games has announced that the 2026 Champions will be hosted in China, followed by the 2027 edition in the Americas.

Challengers and Academy Teams: Starting next year, VCT partner teams will be permitted to have Academy teams in the Challengers league. However, these Academy teams will not be eligible for the Ascension promotion tournament.

Expanded Playoff Structure: For VCT Stage 1, three teams from each region will be seeded into Masters Toronto. The playoffs will now feature eight teams instead of six, expanding opportunities for teams to compete at the top level.

These updates aim to offer more competitive opportunities and better reward teams throughout the season. Riot Games' changes reflect their commitment to growing the VALORANT esports ecosystem and providing an exciting, balanced competitive experience for all participants.
